Illustration inspiration

As I am basing one of my t-shirts entirely on water themed, I had jotted down a few ideas of what tied in with the concept of the lyrics and how I wanted to animate the clothing.

Below is some merchandise for a band called Kenai, unfortunately the artist is unknown. I believe illustrations based towards this approach would be appropriate, using a limited colour pallet and aving such a 3D detail to the dolphin, including the white vector parts which look like shine marks.

I have considered since my last illustrations went a pirate kind of way, to try a pirate themed approach to the illustrations, I have been looking into pirate ships and mythical creatures whom the pirates battled against for survival.

I wanted to include a pirate ship to the t -shirt as well as one of these mythical creatures. I ended up coming to the conclusion of the type of pirate ship I wanted to use after a long time spent searching for the right photos.

Tattooed pirate ships seemed to be the way forward in order for my theme to work, the tattoos are more basic and have an interesting western colour which makes me see more potential for where I can take my illustration.

Above are some waves linked in with the tattoo theme, These waves would be the border for my piece and are very important for the composition and layout of the illustration.

I want a pirate ship like this to draw and I want to use a lime green tint to give the sails a old used kind of look, something that shows decay and is a visual metaphor for the lyrics.

Moving on to my mythical beast.

The giant octopus, this was an interesting thing to choose for me as I have never drew animals before in such a way I have been planning on basing my year I find these illustrations so inspiring and it makes me jealous seeing how good they are, my aim is to make mine better.

Using some of these images I want to build up a highly detailed illustration of a giant octopus as a lot of these images are not full I will be using a lot of it up to my imagination, such as colour, tone and appearance.

I saw these little things in my research and thought they were also an interesting concept, taking things into a more titan kind of era and linking giant threats with civilisation.
