storyboards

this is a really basic stickman piece which is pretty cool for getting the message accross and is relatively simple.

The only thing I can say about this is that I am furious that I am not the person who did it, I love the idea of a single image jumping accross a series of motions.

storyboards i gather inspiration from

I love this piece so much the shading in the context of this storyboard creates such a strong apmosphere and feel it makes you want to know what is going to happen in the rest of the story board.

I think this style is interesting but far to much time is spent on the quality outcome and it is really to time consuming in comparison to if it was done by hand.

clickkkkkkkkkkkkh

I thought a good starting point in investigating would be what actualy clicks and the things that click, what sound typeface would demonstrate that click best.

In investigating click, I thought about my typography lessons and how click actualy sounds, when wrote, i believe it made a fast sharp purring sound like Kliccchehr.
I then took into consideration why we click where we click and what we click.

tv idents

this last one is AWESOME

More videos

Inspirational clips

This is one of my favorite bands songs called Josie, the video consists of different elements of manipulation that relates to the lyrcs, some of my favorite bits are these points in the video:

I love how the type is placed to appear as though a tower is being built then when it gets to
the climax of the introduction it all falls down and the composition is manipulated to make it seem as though there is a camera wrapping around the type as it falls.

This is a key element in the video as I mentioned earlier where a certain word is used in a way that shows its meaning 'around' I love how this is used without having to get to technical.

Another example of this is the word down. I think its really cool how there is such a limited palette used in the first part in the video. It really compliments the animation.

One of the most interesting bits in the song is when the colour scheme changes and
splatters of type with lyrics from the song shoot around the screen.

I think that how the letters are manipulated here are amazing, stating the word
'Please' and then the 'p' falls down with a swing to make the word 'don't' simple and so effective.

I think how using the counter of a shape as a door to another word is genius, i love this idea.

Using msn as a form of type is so smart, I think that this compliments the whole situation of the song and looks amazing.

The only thing I have against the video is the use of image, I think it looks poor and does the video no justice. If this were mine I would not hesitate to get rid of the image.

Below are a few more videos i found inspirational:

Chest and hand pieces

So within my research of chest and hand tattoos i claimed photographs of designs i liked the colour scheme of, the intention, message and average quality of the tattoo and layout of the piece.

Within the photos I discovered that the tattoos tend to be under the throat so they can be hidden when wearing a tshirt, and that the colour scheme varies from basic CMYK colours to dark mysterious purple and golden red pantones.

Packaging

I thought i would look at different types of packaging to understand the market
and what idea's are out there in the design world.
i like the idea that these images are characters which makes them appeal to children who are the influencers in marketing

So as i am developing a t shirt, the sales packaging tends to be bags, So i had a look into different types of bags and decided that i wanted a bag in this kind of style rather than a plastic disposable one.

What about colour though?
I found this image interesting as it creates a lot of attention in a Bauhaus kind of theme.
I do not like the font as it makes the image look front, the a' and n' look stupid in my opinion, to much like space invaders.

I also took into consideration the urganomics of the bag and what material it is made out of. In research canvas and card is the way forward as they are more 'eco' friendly.
I love the shape of the bag below. It is very bulky and gives a feeling of strength.

What about smart ideas? I don't want the packaging to JUST be a bag, I want some kind of
smart factor to it which makes it special ad unique, for example:

This simply jig makes carrying shopping home more balanced and comfortable for the commuter, as many know that your fingers tend to chafe after carrying a plastic bag for to long with applied weight.

Also. I want to do something like this as i think it is so smart
how the image ties in with the bag and the carrier of the bag.
I like the fact that it show two images of things, i.e:

the skipper, when put down shows her jumping over the rope and when being carried
shows her with the rope above her head.

In all I want to create an interaction with the consumer and the product which looks... awesome

tattoo quotes

Death could come at any time, Angelina Jolie says. The tattoo is a strong reminder to live fully in the moment and never have regrets.

Tattoos aren't meant for everybody and they're too goddamn good for some people.
~Lyle Tuttle, tattoo artist, author, and lecturer.

People have asked me, what about your tattoos when you're ninety? Why would it bother me then? I would still want to get tattooed even when I'm a grandmother.

Tattoos are like stories - they're symbolic of the important moments in your life. Sitting down, talking about where you got each tattoo and what it symbolizes, is really beautiful.

Tattoo. What a loaded word it is, rife with associations to goons, goofs, bikers, tribal warriors, carnival artists, drunken sailors and floozies.
~Jon Anderson, "Epidermal Dalis," Chicago Tribune, 6 October 1994

The only difference between a tattooed person and a person who isn't tattooed is that a tattooed person doesn't care if you're tattooed or not. ~(Sign often seen in tattoo shops)

presentation

good is traditional tattoos, for my presentation i decided to touch on a few brief points seeing as we only have 2 minutes available to inform our associates. the sectors i chose were:

  • What is meant by tradition
  • Examples of the work
  • Pro's and con's (colour and image etc)
  • Stereotypes and
  • Other tattoos and my own opinion on them
I chose a black background with a dark rose red for type in gothic mc to give an old school
traditional vibe. The choice in colour suggests it is based towards men, which is not true but
in tradition's opinion, it was more of a man hobby.

Here are a few example slides of the presentation:

The majority of the slides are visual as I am going to explain the images rather than
bore everyone with words on a screen. (I did spell colour right... Americans)

Traditional tattoos are good.

Why traditional tattoos and not any other styles such as old school, henna or tribal.

well the reason for this is i personally find traditional tattoos far more interesting than any other form out there for how unique they are in comparison to tribal which being covered in tattoos myself i know all tattooists HATE doing them:

"Guy came in today asked for a tribal.... told him we were all out of black ink"
Nice quote from my old tattooist in Wigan. the fool believed that they were out of black ink
as well... :/ idiot...

erm yeah well basically here are few examples of why i HATE tribal tattoos full stop:

They have a nickname.... slag tags. cool?
every girl that needs pod to give them a make under has one of these attached to their back.

They always look amazing after a few years time.. bold black ink is always a winner.

Everyone that has a slag tag, has a chav boyfriend who has a tribal on his arm.
Prejudice i know but in the visual communication word, this communicates average.

now don't get me wrong these mass produced tattoos that everyone has arn't the only
choice in tattoo that bores me or makes me think god thats stupid, these fellows below
gross me out..

What complete and utter mongs.
They don't even look good, if you want too look like a tw at the end of the day go ahead and get this done.

Then theres guys like this who really take the p155

Looks wicked awsome man, you are going to be a BABEEEEEEE magnet.
it's for all bad reasons like these i love traditional tattoos. they don't try too hard to impress
and don't come with half the consequences as others.

the thing i love about traditional tattoos is the legacy, history and age from the designs, the uncertainty and apocryphal they are. I believe that the designs are amazing.
Here are a few sketches of traditional ink:

my favorite thing about them is the colour palette used, it is limited and is based around CMYK in bold.

See.. they are just awsome.
